Complete Interior Renovation

Before

After

This transitional home is in an excellent location with proximity to major shopping areas in Charlotte. Palmer Custom Builders was approached with the idea of renovating this 12-year-old home's entire interior for its new owners.

Palmer's Project Goals and Challenges

  • Time was a major challenge on this project, with the homeowners wanting everything complete so they could move into the house within three months.
  • The main level floor had irregularities that hindered the installation of new wood floors.

Solutions

  • The exterior was painted and new exterior light fixtures were installed to enhance the home's curb appeal.
  • The existing main level floor was a combination of carpeting and pickled wood flooring installed over a concrete slab. Due to considerable irregularities in the existing concrete floor, the entire floor was skim coated with a Portland-based underlayment patch. New wood flooring in a darker gunstock color was installed in the foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, great room and hall areas.
  • The master bedroom downstairs and the upstairs were newly carpeted. The lower stair treads and landing just to the left of the foyer, which had been originally carpeted, were rebuilt and stained. The wooden stair and loft railing was rebuilt using iron pickets with decorative accents and an oak handrail that was stained to match the new flooring.
  • The fireplace surround in the great room was tiled, and the mantel was painted. Cabinet units were built on either side of the fireplace, and included a secluded space for a television.
  • An outdated mirrored column in the main entry was rebuilt to convey a more traditional, stately feel. All the walls were freshly painted with a Benjamin Moore historical paint color.
  • A combination of wrought iron and pewter light fixtures and can lights were installed throughout the home to increase the efficiency of the lighting and to update the feel of the home.
