Wood Rot Repair

Before

After

As often happens, this seemingly minor repair discovered during the course of a project concealed a much larger issue.

Palmer's Project Goals and Challenges

  • Complete this repair in order to advance to the next stage of a larger project, which was the addition of a covered porch and related areas.

Solutions

  • When this home had originally been framed, the builder did not use flashing. In addition, the angle of the door threshold frame was not pitched to outside, so the door could not effectively shed water. As a result, water had seeped in, causing the frame to rot out behind the stucco wall. The existing deck was tied into the damaged area.
  • We rebuilt the structure and replaced the existing doors, allowing us to safely tie the new covered porch and deck into the existing home.
