Mac Kitchen Project

Before After

This gorgeous kitchen contracted out to Palmer Custom Builders is located adjacent to a comfortable breakfast and living area. These adjacent rooms on the main level were newly painted with fresh, updated colors from Benjamin Moore.

The kitchen itself is small with functional design, but lacked proper lighting that made it appear dark and dated. The client had recently purchased a new larger white refrigerator and wanted to replace the old stove, microwave and dishwasher with new white appliances. The old slider stove occupied a 27-inch space and the new range required a 30-inch space. We decided to build two custom cabinets which would be installed adjacent to the new range and allow for a 30-inch opening.

The existing cabinets were in great shape and were of good quality construction. All cabinets were custom painted white to match appliances and the new cabinet design matched perfectly when painted. This decision saved the homeowner from replacing good cabinets and making a major financial investment in new cabinets. Nickel finish hardware was installed for a very nice finishing touch.

In addition to the above, the client wanted to install a new quiet disposal and switch the disposal to the opposite sink drain, which required moving drainpipes.

A Kohler under mount stainless steel sink was chosen to accent the beautiful new granite countertop and to add function. The larger basins accommodate larger cooking pots and under mount sink makes counter cleanup quick and easy. A new nickel faucet with sprayer, and soap dispenser was also installed.

The backsplash was created with 4 x 4 Puebla Crosscut tumbled marble tiles installed on the diagonal. This also added warmth and texture to the kitchen.

New under counter Xenon lighting was installed in four under counter areas and eight new can lights were installed to create efficient working light. New fluorescents were installed in an adjacent laundry room and pantry.

The new granite countertop anchored the kitchen, added warmth and has big visual and tactile impact. The width of the granite was extended 12 inches on the bar to provide more island serving and working space. Natural stone is the current favorite of high-end countertop choices. Stone offers high heat resistance and durability and a wide variety of colors and textures, such as this beautiful Tropic Brown granite.

This newly renovated kitchen is fresh, bright, inviting and makes a strong statement in this main living space. This renovation resulted in major change for a minor kitchen renovation under $15,000. The owners should recoup approximately 88 percent of the cost should they decide to sell their home.

This project was planned to keep downtime of the kitchen to a minimum of two days and to be completed in less than eight weeks.
